VLC 3.0.12 is here, with lots of goodies, including native support for Apple Silicon (M1 processor) Macs. This week, VideoLAN announced a new VLC video player update that will make M1 Mac owners very happy. If you recently bought an Apple silicon MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or Mac mini VLC version 3.0.12 brings the app in line with Big Sur visuals.
With Parallels Desktop 17, you can run Windows 11 on Intel-based and M1-based Macs, though an M1 Mac will support only the ARM-based version of Windows 11. You want to take the Windows 11 Insider preview for a test drive, but you'd like to run it on your Mac so that you can easily bounce between Windows and macOS.

Owners of the latest Apple MacBook laptops powered by the companies new M1 processors, might be pleased to know that the VLC media player now supports the latest processes from Apple.The VLC Media Player can now be updated for macOS Updated With Native M1 support although the update is not yet available from the Apple App Store, users can use the existing application VLC 3.0.12 to trigger an update on your M1 MacBook to download the subsequent 3.0.12.1 update that installs the native application on your Mac.

The latest update from VLC includes support for Apple Silicon (Mac M1) and Big Sur, improvements for DASH, RIST, Bluray support, fixes for macOS audio, Windows GPU, crashes and security issues.

Devices and Mac OS X version

VLC media player requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. It runs on any Mac with a 64-bit Intel processor or an Apple Silicon chip. Previous devices are supported by older releases.
Note that the first generation of Intel-based Macs equipped with Core Solo or Core Duo processors is no longer supported. Please use version 2.0.10 linked below.

Web browser plugin for Mac OS X

Support for NPAPI plugins was removed from all modern web browsers, so VLC's plugin is no longer maintained. The last version is 3.0.4 and can be found here. It will not receive any further updates.
